建筑依赖一系列技术得以维持城市的宜居性。如果没有机械设备,建筑将缺失基本的供水供能。保温、制冷、照明、防火、电梯等也不复存在。在设计和工程阶段,往往是建筑方案确立后,机械设施和架构根据已有的体量、用途和空间组织来调整。该项目以建筑的性能作为设计过程的出发点,利用形式和机械设备的协同作用,达到对其的低依赖性。

设计首先研究具有自遮阳、光漫射、空气导流、烟囱效应等热学优势的表面,然后通过规则地组合多个单一的表面形成具有多重效应和属性的体量。

Architecture relies on a range of technologies to make the structures of our cities livable. In their absence, buildings would lack basic services like water and power. There would be no heating, cooling, lighting, fire safety, and elevators. In the design and engineering process the building scheme is first established, then the mechanical infrastructure is fashioned to respond to the determined massing, uses, and organization of spaces. This project, considering the building performance as an active input, takes advantage of mass and machines sustainably working together to diminish dependence on mechanical system.

The project starts from the research on thermal benefits of surface. The curved surface possesses four fundamental thermal potentials which are self-shading, light diffusing, air conducting and chimney effect. To achieve multiplied thermal potentials and attributes, single volumes of curved surface are combined regularly to formalize a larger volume with undulate surface.
